Understanding heat networks
Heat networks can be local, supplying a small cluster of buildings, or they can connect an entire city like the Hull MAGIC scheme.
A heat network starts at a central point called an energy centre where heat is produced. The heat can be sourced from a number of renewable energy sources. Once the heat is generated, it’s carried through a network of insulated underground pipes to connected buildings.
When hot water from the heat network reaches a building, it passes through a heat exchanger, transferring the heat into the building’s heating system, providing the end user with reliable, low-cost heat or heat and hot water.

Energy Centre:
With ample thermal storage, the energy centre maximises heat usage and can meet peak demand. This ensures a reliable, consistent supply of heat and hot water even when demand fluctuates.
