Connecting
to the network
Understanding heat networks
Heat networks can be local, supplying a small cluster of buildings, or they can connect an entire city like the Hull MAGIC scheme.
How do heat
networks work?
A heat network starts at a central point called an energy centre where heat is produced. The heat can be sourced from a number of renewable energy sources, e.g. waste heat. Once the heat is generated, it’s carried through a network of insulated underground pipes to connected buildings or homes.
When hot water from the heat network reaches a building, it passes through a heat exchanger, transferring the heat into the buildings heating system, providing the end user with reliable, low cost heat or heat and hot water.
